The Old Lisbeth Salander Supports The New One

Noomi Rapace is the sole reason that I was extremely hesitant to support an American version of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo and Stieg Larsson’s Millenium Series as a whole. “Hesitant” is actually an understatement.

I LOATHED the idea of it. If you’ve ever read the books or seen the Swedish film adaptations, you’d know that as a fan you develop a very strong connection with the characters. Lisbeth in particular, the non-cliche, promiscuous, borderline-Asperger’s hacker.

The Rooney Mara casting decision seemed very odd, but better than some others who were reportedly being considered, such as Kristen Stewart and Ellen Page. (Though Mia Wasikowska could have worked)

Once I saw David Fincher’s trailer and his take on it, plus Rooney as Salander, I dropped my inhibitions. Karen O and Trent Reznor’s doing “Immigrant Song” didn’t hurt either.

However, I still wondered what had happened to the original movie version of Lisbeth, Noomi Rapace, who we now know is starring in Sherlock Holmes: A Game Of Shadows and Ridley Scott’s ambitious non-Alien alien movie, Prometheus.

HitFix.com caught up with Rapace, where she addressed her feelings about the new Girl With The Dragon Tattoo.

“You know what I was so done with Lisbeth when we finished. She was really in control of my life for a long time, one and a half years, and when I left her I really kind of let her go…I’m sure they will do something that is far away from what we did, that is very personal for them, I will see it, but I don’t think about it that much.”
