Glee 3D was released on Friday, August 12, 2011 and came inbetween The Change-Up and Horrible Bosses on the Box Office charts at 11th place. For all the promoting they’ve done I’d expect it to at least come in the low end of the top five, sheesh.
Glee 3D’s budget was a measly nine million but it only grossed $5.7 million and is expected to recuperate from at least that small amount over the next few weeks.
Even dorks who watch the hit FOX show on a regular basis (me) are unlikely to grow the balls to venture inside a theater that is actually showing this film. However, I don’t think it necessarily speaks to Glee’s popularity or lack thereof, I just think it was a bad idea in concert film format.
Perhaps only the Biebs and Hannah M.Cyrus can rule the concert movie box office. What kind of profit will Glee 3D even make? My opinion, there are too many cast members! People only want to go to see a select few sing, and instead they are stuck with all the rejects.
Where’s a Santana, Brittany, Puck and Quinn movie when you need one?
