The Biggest Video Game Reveals At E3

At the biggest yearly video game event, Electronic Entertainment Expo, I’ve seen many promising games. All from the comfort of my home, I mean, I can’t be bothered to to fly to L.A. just to be overwhelmed by crowds and demos.

G4 is sufficient. I appreciated the Aisha Tyler-hosted Ubisoft event over the boring bigwigs at EA. So far, the trailers for Halo 4, Assassin’s Creed 3, and The Avengers: Battle for Earth are the most exciting.

I’m 100% opposed to games based on movies (except Escape from Butcher Bay), which is fine because THQ’s Battle For Earth has nothing to do with the Robert Downey/Scarjo/Chris Evans/Hemsworth/Ruffalo film.

Instead, it features Wolverine, Spiderman, Iron Man, Thor, Venom and more for Kinect and Wii U.

The latest Assassin’s Creed, due in October, is expected to bring back fans who may have lost interest with AC: Brotherhood.
I’m not so sure,  there’s something unsettling about a hooded ninja jumping through the woods during the American Revolution. Some aspects of it could even be compared to Rockstar’s Red Dead Redemption aka Grand Theft Horse.
Dead Space 3 from EA/Visceral Games looked promisingly Doom and Quake-like with improved gameplay and graphics, things that were never lacking to begin with. Oh, and now there’s co-op availability, so you can die less. Maybe.

Speaking of dying technology… Nintendo introduced their new console, the Wii U, and its tablet and backwards Xbox-lookin’ controller. God bless them for trying.

Now for Halo 4, the first installment by 343 Industries and not Bungie. Master Chief and his little blue girlfriend Cortana are back. This is a project that has been in the works since 2009, and it looks amazing.

The footage I’ve seen (of new enemies and weapons) restores my faith in my favorite franchise. On the other hand, this 7 minute partially live-action preview was a bit much.

Finally, Call Of Duty: Black Ops 2. I have nothing to say about this but, uh, it’s going to be big as usual. COD is the Octomom of first person shooters. The difference is in quality.

Other stuff to check out – Star Wars 1313, Madden ’13, God Of War: Ascension, Sim City Social, Gears Of War: Judgment, Epic Mickey 2, Hitman: Absolution, Tomb Raider, and Rayman Legends.
