A 16-year-old German boy constructed this highly detailed version of The Shire, a masterful brick-by-brick visualization of the beginning of J.R.R Tolkien’s 1954 classic, The Fellowship of the Ring, when Gandalf arrives in Hobbiton for Bilbo’s 111th birthday party.
This LEGO Shire complete with fish-wielding Gollum, Frodo, Bag End, Sting, and Gandalf’s firecracker wagon, won third place for Best MOC (my own creation) at Berlin’s SteineWahn 2012 and took the TFOL (teenage fan of LEGO) no less than three months to build.
I’ve never been to LEGOLAND or entered my creations in a contest, but I did have quite the impressive collection of Castle, Pirate and Space LEGOs as a child and teenager. And yes, I did the voices. I even had funerals for the knights, two of which were painstakingly named after my fictional mancrushes, Gwydion from The Chronicles of Prydain and Aragorn from LOTR.
