Suicide: Selfish ‘Choice’ or Unconscious Act of Desperation?

Robin williams good morning As you all know by now, the world lost Robin Williams, one of the most versatile, funny men in the entertainment industry. A man with more great movies under his belt than any other I can name. He was a legend, one I grew up with. The Birdcage and Mrs. Doubtfire are two of my favorite comedies of all time and Aladdin was my all-time favorite, most-sung Disney movie as a grade schooler. That’s one of the two questions people seem to be answering on their own when confronting the loss of such an icon…. Their favorite work of his, and then their thoughts in general on suicide.

Many celebrities have weighed in, most leaning heavily toward one side or the other. On one end, we have people who believe suicide to be the ultimate selfish act, and on the other, those who feel that it’s not a choice at all, but an act so desperate it’s committed without thought.

Gene Simmons:

No, I don’t get along with anybody who’s a drug addict and has a dark cloud over their head and sees themselves as a victim. Drug addicts and alcoholics are always: “The world is a harsh place.” My mother was in a concentration camp in Nazi Germany. I don’t want to hear fuck all about “the world as a harsh place.” She gets up every day, smells the roses and loves life. And for a putz, 20-year-old kid to say, “I’m depressed, I live in Seattle.” Fuck you, then kill yourself.

I never understand, because I always call them on their bluff. I’m the guy who says ‘Jump!’ when there’s a guy on top of a building who says, “That’s it, I can’t take it anymore, I’m going to jump.”

Are you kidding? Why are you announcing it? Shut the fuck up, have some dignity and jump! You’ve got the crowd.

Peaches Geldof
Bob Geldof (most famous for the song “I Don’t Like Mondays”) addressed the heartbreaking loss:

We are beyond pain. She was the wildest, funniest, cleverest, wittiest and the most bonkers of all of us. Writing ‘was’ destroys me afresh. What a beautiful child. How is this possible that we will not see her again? How is that bearable?”

Sources for TMZ say the Oscar winner (for Capote, in 2005) and father of three was discovered early Sunday “in his boxer shots, with a needle sticking out of his left arm.”

Paul Walker’s Cause of Death and Last Words

Paul Walker racing gearPaul Walker‘s cause of death was revealed today by the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office. He was in a horrible flaming car crash so it’s not exactly a huge shocker that he died from the combined effects of “traumatic and thermal injuries.”

While we’re waiting on toxicology reports that will likely come back negative (because it was 8:30 in the morning), a man who attended the charity event Walker was driving home from at the time of death has shared his last words…

“We’ll be back in five minutes.”

Because Walker was relatively young and fellow young people of today are absolutely INSANE, there are a bunch of cockamamie conspiracy theories floating around.

The theories involved Brian from Family Guy, the Illuminati and a drone strike. As in, Brian the Dog is in the Illuminati and called in a drone strike on Paul Walker.

Was Brittany Murphy Poisoned? Coroner and Forensic Specialist Say NO

Brittany Murphy Uptown Girls stillThe father of Brittany Murphy – the actress who made us laugh and cry in Clueless and Girl, Interrupted – is pedaling a theory that her husband were poisoned.

It was said that Murphy and Simon Monjack, who died within months of each other in late 2009 and 2010, mysteriously died of “natural causes,” but a test ordered using a hair sample of the late star claims that an irregular amount of heavy metals used in rat poison and insecticides were in her bloodstream at the time of death.

No word on the who or why, but both the L.A. coroner and the president of the Board of Forensic Toxicology are calling the report bogus.

Coroner’s statement: “We have not seen the results and nothing has been presented to us. We stand by what we ruled on the case.”

Specialist/President of Forensic Toxicology’s words, via CNN:

“It’s ridiculous,” Dr. Bruce Goldberger said. A conclusion of poisoning is an “inflammatory statement” that “is a baseless allegation and outrageous statement to make based on a single hair test.”

Murphy’s autopsy revealed no physical signs of poisoning, he said. “A hair test alone, without any clinical signs or symptoms, cannot be used to establish poisoning.”

The private report also showed a normal level of arsenic, which would have been elevated if rat poisoning was involved, he said.

“She was a beautiful woman and likely had numerous hair treatments,” Goldberger said. “Chemicals in the hair treatment would alter the chemistry of her hair sample.”

I can’t deny that her and her husband’s deaths seem very suspicious, especially considering their ages (32 and 40) BUT I also think her dad may be [understandably] reaching for an explanation.

‘Glee’ Fans Will Mourn the Death of Finn Hudson in Fall of 2013

Finn hudson GleeGlee, [American Horror Story, Nip/Tuck and The New Normal] creator Ryan Murphy recently told E! News what his last conversation with Cory Monteith, who played Finn Hudson on the popular musical show and died of a heroin overdose last week, related to.

Unsurprisingly, it had to do with drugs, his job and a general unified concern for his life. Murphy was well aware of Monteith’s problem both past and present and discussed his reliance on narcotics.

“He wanted to continue working and we said, ‘That’s not an option. No. The TV show doesn’t matter, your life matters,'” Murphy said of the 31-year-old he described as “an older son.”

“His last words to me were, “I want to get better,” the Glee showrunner continued. “I always felt and continue to feel even in his death that he did, that he really wanted to fight it and he was humiliated and shamed.”

Cory Monteith Died of a Heroin and Alcohol-Related Drug Overdose

Cory Monteith drumsA coroner in British Columbia confirmed earlier this week that 31-year-old Glee star Cory Monteith’s death was caused by a lethal dose of heroin mixed with alcohol on Saturday.

“It should be noted that at this point there is no evidence to suggest Mr. Monteith’s death was anything other than a most-tragic accident,” Canadian authorities said in a press conference.

The police explained that “there were indications in the room that this was a drug overdose,” and while they didn’t specify what those indications were, it’s probably safe to assume that, since it was heroin, there were either needles or some kind of foil and/or pipe discovered in his hotel room.

His co-star Jane Lynch said the following kind words about Monteith while visiting The Tonight Show:

“Cory’s one of the biggest hearts, was a real bright light. He was one of those guys that … he knew he was breathing rarified air. The gifts that this wonderful show gave us … He was always aware that it was a gift and he was quite generous. He was one of those adventurous types of people.”  Continue reading “Cory Monteith Died of a Heroin and Alcohol-Related Drug Overdose”

Former NE Patriot Aaron Hernandez Pleads Not Guilty to First-Degree Murder

Aaron Hernandez handcuffsNFL star Aaron Hernandez appeared in court today for the suspected murder of his friend, semi-pro Boston football player Odin Lloyd.

Hernandez plead not guilty to charges of first-degree murder and unregistered gun possession.

Massachusetts prosecution and police allege that the ex-Patriot’s tight end (he was let go by the team amid the scandal) either killed Lloyd, who suffered multiple gunshot wounds, or watched him die on June 17 and later destroyed evidence such as his cell phone and home surveillance camera.

Even though Lloyd’s body was found near Hernandez’s home and the two were clearly together on the night of his death, the defense believes the evidence is too weak for their client to be jailed. (The murder weapon has yet to be found.)

As for a motive, it is believed that Hernandez began to feel as if he couldn’t trust Lloyd after he was seen talking to a group of people he “had beef with.” This gang mentality seems to fit with reports that NFL teams and police were concerned about his drug use and “circle of influence” before he was drafted in 2010.

James Gandolfini’s TV Family – Edie Falco, Jamie-Lynn Sigler and Robert Iler – React to His Death

James Gandolfini sopranos familyActor extraordinaire James Gandolfini’s sudden passing in Italy on Wednesday shocked me, your mama, and the millions of other people who tuned into The Sopranos or saw any one of the notable movies (Get Shorty, Zero Dark Thirty, 8MM, The Mexican, Killing Them Softly etc.) he starred in.

Gandolfini worked with everyone from Brad Pitt (who called him a “gentle soul and a genuinely funny man” in a statement), to John Travolta to younger actresses like Kristen Stewart, Olivia Wilde and Saoirse Ronan.

Perhaps most taken aback, with the largest outpour of kind messages, his Sopranos’ family helmed by Edie Falco, Robert Iler and Jamie-Lynn Sigler, who played his wife, son and daughter on the hit show.

Falco said she was “devastated” by the news, calling the love between Tony and Carmela “the greatest I’ve ever known,” while Sigler (Meadow Soprano) released the following words to Us Weekly:

I spent 10 years of my life studying and admiring one of the most brilliant actors, yes, but more importantly, one of the greatest men. Jim had the ability, unbeknownst to him, to make you feel like everything would be alright if he was around. I treasure my memories with him and feel so honored that I was an up close witness to his greatness.  Continue reading “James Gandolfini’s TV Family – Edie Falco, Jamie-Lynn Sigler and Robert Iler – React to His Death”

Lil’ Wayne Back From the Dead After Syrup Seizure?

Lil' Wayne syrupOn Friday, TMZ made mention of [what we now know was] a very real seizure that sent Dwayne “Lil’ Wayne” Carter to the hospital, mixed with unreliable Enquirer-esque info about him entering a medically-induced coma and being read his “last rites.” The seizure, which is not Lil’ Wayne’s first, was reportedly caused by some sort of sizzurp binge.

Sizzurp (aka syrup, aka “the drank”) being a mixture of promethazine and codeine, often prescribed to those with ultra phlegm-y pneumonia.

People from Carter’s record label seemed outraged by the claims that their friend and business partner was on the verge of death. So, they’re either in denial or rightfully pissed at the false allegations. (As of yesterday night, TMZ continued to post updates about his mother flying to the L.A. to decide whether or not to keep him on life support in the ICU.)  Continue reading “Lil’ Wayne Back From the Dead After Syrup Seizure?”

Miley Cyrus Not Surprised (Or Concerned) That a Paparazzo Was Killed Chasing The Biebs

Miley Cyrus beanMiley Cyrus has inserted her [unasked for] opinion on the death of Chris Guerra, the photographer who was hit on his way back to his car after snapping photos of Justin Bieber’s white Ferrari.

Cyrus says “It is unfair for anyone to put this on to Justin’s conscious as well! This was bound to happen!” adding that the paparazzi are “fools” who make it impossible for anyone to be safe.

Then she played the Princess Diana card, which is an easy card to play considering she was beautiful and kind and basically the most beloved person in the entire world. Justin Bieber is no Princess Diana. He’s more of a drawn-out constipation.

‘Sons Of Anarchy’ And ‘The O.C.’ Star Johnny Lewis Dead, Suspected Of Killing His Landlady

28-year-old Johnny Lewis, who played the prospect “Half-Sack” on Sons Of Anarchy and Marissa Cooper’s surfer friend “Chili” in season three of The O.C., died after being involved in a bizarre murder on Wednesday, September 26.

Lewis, who was released from jail six days prior and had been in an out of rehab, reportedly murdered the 81-year-old woman he had been renting a room from and then jumped off the roof to his death (his body was discovered in the driveway).

Police believe he was on meth or PCP and many actors and actresses who worked with him Tweeted “rest in peace” messages and hinted that this behavior was not typical or indicative of who he was.

“Johnny Lewis was one of my best friends. He was very, very ill. His actions were a despicable result of that. It was not who he was,” wrote Shannon Woodward, friend of Katy Perry (who Johnny dated in 2006).  Continue reading “‘Sons Of Anarchy’ And ‘The O.C.’ Star Johnny Lewis Dead, Suspected Of Killing His Landlady”

Sage Stallone’s Death Still Shrouded In Mystery

As you may know, Sylvester Stallone’s eldest son Sage Stallone was found dead at his home in Los Angeles on Friday. What we still don’t know is the cause of death or many details at all, for that matter.

There were prescription pills in the home but as far as we know they were not on his person or next to his body. His mother, who identified the body, said she only found empty soda cans in the vicinity.

TMZ reports that he had been dead for at least three days and that he lived a very reclusive lifestyle, comparing him to Howard Hughes and calling him “a hermit.”  Continue reading “Sage Stallone’s Death Still Shrouded In Mystery”
