Jenny McCarthy Hired on as ‘The View’ Host, is Apparently Controversial

Jenny McCarthy son instagramSome are saying that Jenny McCarthy being hired onto The View to sit with Whoopi and Barbara and express opinions about culture and current events is controversial. She’s replacing adorably staunch Republican Elisabeth Hasslebeck, which is, in itself “controversial” if you really want to nitpick.

A bunch of “authorities” (because you know people back in the day went to college to one day discuss Jenny McCarthy joining a joint talk show in 2013) think ABC made a poor choice in the Playboy cover girl because of her stance on vaccinations. (Click here for more on that.)

Others may or may not find her dedication to talking about sex off-putting. Puh-lease. Have you seen The Talk? Those women are crazy in a good way and I can only assume The View is looking to mix it up and make it “fun” the way their competition over at CBS has.  Continue reading “Jenny McCarthy Hired on as ‘The View’ Host, is Apparently Controversial”

Seth Meyers Taking Fallon’s ‘Late Night’ Reins

Jimmy Fallon Seth MeyersSaturday Night Live writer and news guy Seth Meyers thanked Lorne Michaels (and his mother) on Twitter after he was confirmed as Jimmy Fallon’s Late Night replacement.

“So, next year I’m going to do this. Thanks to NBC, Lorne, but especially Mom,” he wrote, including a link to the NY Times article announcing the big move.

I like Seth Meyers. He’s very sharp on Weekend Update, but who exactly decided that Fallon’s sub had to be another SNL alumn? Is Fallon’s success, and the success of any other host, not a one-of-a-kind occurrence that has to do with individual talent?

Obsessing over his lack of versatility compared to his predecessor is pointless. He’s more comedic than Leno or Letterman, and presumably not much less in tune than Fallon, Ferguson or Kimmel. He’ll be fine.

Meyers is expected to stay on Saturday Night Live through the holidays, until early 2014.

Leno Officially Handing ‘The Tonight Show’ To Fallon, ‘Late Night’ Still Unclaimed

Jay Leno Jimmy Fallon NBC announced Wednesday that unfunniest man in Hollywood Jay Leno will be retiring from The Tonight Show in Spring of 2014, giving him more time to penetrate exhaust pipes.

“This time around there really aren’t any complications like there were the last time,” said Leno, on that time he stole Conan’s job. “This time it feels right.”

Jimmy Fallon will step into Jay’s shoes for a reported pay increase of $12 million (from $5M), but there’s still no news of who will take over Late Night. Fellow SNL alum Seth Myers’ name is in the hat, but I’d rather see Aisha Tyler, or Jay Mohr. (Listen to their podcasts, Girl on Guy and Mohr Stories immediately.)

Matt Damon Gets Revenge on Jimmy Kimmel

Matt Damon Jimmy kimmelAfter years of Jimmy Kimmel teasing his audience with the age-old “My apologies to Matt Damon, we ran out of time” line, plus several cameos including one very memorable song, Matt finally, truly appeared on the show. Kimmel sat bound and gagged in the background as Damon acted as the host, Andy Garcia replaced security guard Guillermo and Sheryl Crow lead the band.

Damon pointed at Kimmel and then at himself saying,”Normally this program is hosted by that, tonight it’s being hosted by this,” and brought Jimmy’s real-life ex-girlfriend Sarah Silverman on the program, who roasted him by saying this about their relationship and why she dated him:  Continue reading “Matt Damon Gets Revenge on Jimmy Kimmel”

Michael Strahan Replaces Regis Philbin For ‘Live! With Kelly And Michael’

And Kelly Ripa’s new co-host on the daytime talk show formerly known as Live with Regis and Kathie LeeLive! with Regis and Kelly, and then Live! with Kelly has a new permanent co-host in former Giants defensive end Michael Strahan.

Strahan was rumored to be replacing Regis in late August, so I’m sure the news doesn’t come as a huge surprise. You also might think he’s an unlikely host, but look at the show’s history…

Kelly might have seemed an odd choice in 2001, but she quickly increased the show’s young demographic by 80%. Strahan’s vitality and that-much-fun-looks-painful chemistry with Kelly could do a similar kind of viewer rearrangement with men, women, sports fans, and youths.  Continue reading “Michael Strahan Replaces Regis Philbin For ‘Live! Lindsay Lohan’s Return To SNL

Lindsay and Miley news in two short days? I know what you’re thinking…it’s Christmas all over again!

Remember Lindsay Lohan‘s “growth” as Hermione or in the infamous infectious Debbie Downer laughter skit with Rachel Dratch, Jimmy Fallon, Amy Poehler, Fred Armisen and Horatio Sanz?

Or there’s the fact that she hosted a total of three times and is returning to the show on March 3. You heard right. Jack White will be there to sing his new song “Love Interruption.” Continue reading “Lindsay Lohan’s Return To SNL”

Kanye Will Likely Overshadow LL Cool J’s Hosting Gig At The Grammys

LL Cool J is the definite host of the 2012 Grammy Awards which will undoubtedly be overshadowed by Kanye West who is nominated seven times, and you know what that means – he’s 100% going to win at least one award which means something else in itself…

He’ll storm the stage, make some crazy narcissistic comments, likely about how the artists on his new G.O.O.D label are better than all the other artists at the show, plus something about Blue Ivy Carter being a bigger star than Adele.

I know that if LL Cool J wanted to he could knock Kanye out just like his mama said, but he’s too much of a gentleman. Continue reading “Kanye Will Likely Overshadow LL Cool J’s Hosting Gig At The Grammys”

Steve Buscemi, I Love You, But No More SNL

I’m not sure what it is about certain older actors, serious ones who have starred in comedic roles but are known for more serious work, but they are the worst SNL hosts. The last time Christopher Walken and Robert De Niro hosted they did awful jobs. Neither of them could pay attention or dedicate themselves to a character.

Steve Buscemi did better than those two, but I’m still starting to think the best hosts are the people you expect to do poorly. Justin Timberlake, Britney Spears, Taylor Swift, Jennifer Lopez, Megan Fox and Lindsay Lohan have all done it and knocked it out of the park. (This is why I expect Katy Perry to do well)

Katy Perry Set To Host SNL

Yesterday afternoon Katy Perry took to her Twitter account to let us know that she will be hosting Saturday Night Live on December 10th with her California Dreams touring partner, Robyn, as the musical guest.

We all know Katy Perry is cartoonish and at times she does a great impression of herself, but can she pull of SNL? Who knows. It’s sort of 50/50, but in the past when “musicians” have come on the show, it’s been pretty great. Such as Taylor Swift, Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake.

Honestly at this point in her career, I’d rather see Katy host than sing, especially since I know she’ll be serenading America with “The One That Got Away.” Zzz.

Eddie Murphy Drops Oscar Hosting Gig, Billy Crystal Picks It Up

Eddie Murphy was asked about his return to the Oscars, which he was meant to host in February, in his Rolling Stone interview with Mark Seliger. He replied:

“There’s no pressure. It ain’t about me that night, it’s about the Oscars and making the show move smoothly. It’s not ‘And now ladies and gentlemen , the 2012 version of my ice cream bit, sit back and relax. I want some ice cream… In closing ladies and gentlemen, I’d like to say, ‘Goonie goo goo.’ Thank you very much!’ I don’t think it’s going to be anything like that.”
