Get Ready for a Female Thor and a Black Captain America

female thor black captain americaEvery year at Comic-Con we see bundles of gender and race-flipped superheroes, and now, to delight of cosplayers everywhere, female Thor and black Captain America are a reality in the Marvel universe.

Steve Rogers is passing his shield to Sam Wilson a.k.a Falcon (played by Anthony Mackie in The Winter Soldier) and Thor’s hammer is being picked up by a woman.

Introduced in 1969, Falcon was the second mainstream black superhero ever after Black Panther in 1966, and the first to hail from the U.S. As for Thor, we’ll have to wait until October to find out about the mysterious woman who takes the place of the original and what he did to no longer be worthy of the title.  Continue reading “Get Ready for a Female Thor and a Black Captain America”

Trailer: Guardians of the Galaxy

Dudes will love the new full-length Guardians of the Galaxy trailer because goofball Chris Pratt is the male version of Jennifer Lawrence. He is every man’s imaginary BFF and every woman’s imaginary boyfriend.

Handsome but not threateningly so, Pratt plays the mischievous Star-Lord in Marvel’s upcoming superhero ensemble also starring Zoe Saldana, John C. Reilly and voice work from Bradley Cooper and Vin Diesel.

It looks GOOOD partially thanks to virtually unknown director James Gunn, but mostly because of Chris.

Trailer: The Amazing Spider-Man 2

Sony made their point completely rebooting Spider-Man just five years after Spider-Man 3 and we let it slide because 1) we had no choice and 2) we hoped the sequel would be better.

While this trailer does make The Amazing Spider-Man 2 look better than it’s predecessor, I question if it will be better or equal to Spider-Man 1 and 2 with Tobey Maguire.

Marvel’s villains continue to fail in comparison to DC’s, as Jamie Foxx’s Electro looks as silly and non-threatening as The Lizard and Sandman from Marc Webb AND Sam Raimi’s interpretations but the new, grittier Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan, In Treatment) may just save the film.

Trailer: X-Men: Days of Future Past

Though I think it was kind of douchey for Bryan Singer to take back the franchise he killed from Matthew Vaughn, the man who revitalized it with X Men: First Class, Days of Future Past looks promising.

With the help of Picard and Gandalf’s narration, Hugh Jackman’s bare chest and Jennifer Lawrence’s tears, Singer may successfully Febreze away the stench of X Men: The Last Stand.

Trailer: Captain America: The Winter Soldier

It’s always really hard for me to tell if it’s Chris Evans making that confused face, or Chris Evans ACTING confused as Steve Rogers, but either way, Captain America is back in his second feature film and he’s still as annoyingly righteous as ever. “This isn’t freedom, it’s fear!” Ugh.

Good thing Nick Fury and Bitch Widow are there to verbally slap him and bring him back to reality.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier co-starring Scarlett Johansson, Anthony Mackie and Robert Redford his theaters April of 2014, before Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy (August 2014) and The Avengers: Age of Ultron (May 2015).  Continue reading “Trailer: Captain America: The Winter Soldier”

Trailer: Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Now that the networks have saddened you by cancelling your favorite shows, they’re drying your tears with previews for new ones! One of the most buzzed-about is ABC’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D…

The show centers around the secretive law-enforcement agency from the Marvel universe. You know, the people who assembled Hulk, Thor, Iron Man, Captain America, Black Widow and Hawkeye?

Chris Pratt Just Landed the Lead in Marvel’s Next Big Franchise

Chris Pratt StarlordLike many women of the 20-something age group, I first saw Chris Pratt as a completely cliché, granola-munching hippie on The O.C.

The more he traipsed around in plaid talking to Summer (Rachel Bilson) about spirit animals the more I disliked him as an actor and person. Only a minor change of heart occurred when I heard he was dating Anna Faris, because I figured she wouldn’t get with a humorless square.

THEN I finally suckered myself into watching Parks and Recreation after resisting for at least two years because I hate the talk-to the-camera format of The Office…  Continue reading “Chris Pratt Just Landed the Lead in Marvel’s Next Big Franchise”
