Anderson Cooper is Not the Pussy Willow Prince

Anderson Cooper What What Happens Live Anderson Cooper has a message for the unforgiving citizens of Buffalo, New York: he’s simply too busy to attend the annual Dyngus Day parade.

Cooper was offered the title of “Pussy Willow Prince,” due to the celebration’s use of the swamp-loving plants of the same embarrassing name, but had to decline due to scheduling conflicts.

“I wanted to go, I would have been happy to go. I never promised I could go. I said I would pencil it in, and if my schedule allowed it I would go. I’m working that day. I’ve got three jobs, I can’t go to a parade,” Cooper told Watch What Happens Live host Andy Cohen.

When fellow guest/Bridesmaids star Wendi Mclendon asked what the hell Dyngus Day was, Cooper gave the following hilarious description:  Continue reading “Anderson Cooper is Not the Pussy Willow Prince”

Michael Jackson’s Son is Going to be a Big Television Star

Prince Michael JacksonSoooo Michael Jackson’s 16-year-old son Prince just got a job with Entertainment Tonight, which is totally more prestigious than (but just as non-important as) Extra. Both shows hire weirdly interesting c-list, Surreal Life-worthy celebrities like Holly Madison and Robin Leach.

During his first gig interviewing Oz the Great and Powerful‘s James Franco, Sam Raimi and scrub Zach Braff, we learn that MJ Jr. has a pretty deep voice. Some fellow ET employee woman told him he seemed wise for his age and he grabbed his crotch, lit his hair on fire and screamed “Ehhh-heee” said it was all thanks to his dad.  Continue reading “Michael Jackson’s Son is Going to be a Big Television Star”

Prince Tells Billboard Why He’s More Precious Than Madonna, Maroon 5 and Everyone Else

Prince billboard cover 2013Gail Mitchell is the senior editor for Billboard, specializing in R&B. Gail was recently given the task (or perhaps no one else would take it) of interviewing Prince.

On one hand it’s an honor and a once of a lifetime opportunity because he rarely speaks to reporters, on the other, he’s a tool. Such a tool in fact that he disallowed Mitchell from recording the conversation because she’s [obviously] going to sell his voice for her own personal gain, and frowned at her for taking notes because it’s rude, “just like texting.”

Mitchell recalled from memory Prince’s comments about his former label mate Madonna (who called him a “little troll” in 1994):

It was always about Madonna. She was getting paid, but at the same time we were selling more records and selling out concerts on multiple nights.  Continue reading “Prince Tells Billboard Why He’s More Precious Than Madonna, Maroon 5 and Everyone Else”

Video: Prince – “Rock and Roll Love Affair”

“Rock and Roll Love Affair,” released on Thanksgiving in true Prince fashion, is smooth and decidedly not of this era. It’s also his first music video in three years.

Fresh off his Welcome 2 tour (for an album from 2010) with bright stars like Janelle Monáe, Esperanza Spalding, Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings and Cee Lo, fans can pray for cool new material in 2013.

Video: Nicki Minaj – “Va Va Voom”

Alright, first of all, I don’t have very good vision, so when Nicki popped up out of those stampeding unicorns, I thought she was re-living Good Morning America by exposing her entire left boob.

Once I got past that, mostly by realizing that YouTube never asked me to sign in, I came to the conclusion that this is a much cheaper version of Katy Perry’s “Wide Awake.”  Continue reading “Video: Nicki Minaj – “Va Va Voom””

Maya Rudolph Spoofs Beyonce In Blue Ivy Carter Skit

The most recent episode of Saturday Night Live was a highlight of the season and perhaps the past three years as well. I’d rank it right up there with the Justin Timberlake/Lady Gaga episode.

One memorable moment (of many) was the Beyonce baby skit, which was an excuse not only for Jay Pharoah to do his Jay-Z impression and for Maya Rudolph to reprise her role as Beyonce but for a bevvy of “celebrities” to congratulate them.

Justin Timberlake came out as Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon saying “Sorry I’m late, whatever…I fashioned this guitar out of a canoe” and singing something indiscernible about a ferris wheel. Continue reading “Maya Rudolph Spoofs Beyonce In Blue Ivy Carter Skit”

Stevie Nicks Almost Wrote Prince’s ‘Purple Rain’

In a recent interview with the Minneapolis Star Tribune, Stevie Nicks of Fleetwood Mac dropped the news that in 1983 she was approached by Prince to write the lyrics to the epic gospel power ballad “Purple Rain.”

The two became acquaintances when Prince played synth on the 1983 Nicks solo track “Stand Back.” Later that year, he sent her a tape with the early instrumental structure that would later become “Purple Rain.”

Prince asked Nicks to write the lyrics to the song from the hit 1984 movie/album of the same name, but she was too intimidated to even know where to begin…
