12 Inspiring Nelson Mandela Quotes to Recite During Hard Times

Nelson Mandela freedom fistAfrica’s most peaceful and influential leader may no longer be with us, but his legacy lives on in the country he worked so hard to free, the various charities organizations he founded, and finally, his words.

Here are some quotes from Nelson Mandela – who died on Thursday in Johannesburg at the ripe age of 95 – to memorize, recite and live by:

1. “May your choices reflect your hopes, not your fears.”

2. “No one is born hating another person because of the color of his skin, or his background, or his religion. People must learn to hate, and if they can learn to hate, they can be taught to love, for love comes more naturally to the human heart than its opposite.”  Continue reading “12 Inspiring Nelson Mandela Quotes to Recite During Hard Times”

Courtney Love on Howard Stern Highlights 5/30/13

Courtney Love Howard Stern 2013Regular Stern Show guest Courtney Love is one of Howard’s most fascinating interviews because she’s one of the last completely candid survivors of the grunge movement. She’s such an endless resource of drug and sex-related stories that transcribing nearly an hour of her comments on everything from money to her Sylvia Plath moment with Ted Nugent’s penis turkey neck didn’t bore me in the least.

The curse of the Nirvana money: “The Kurt money, the Nirvana money it’s like… the Nirvana money… and it’s being managed by other people and I just consider it cursed. So I prefer to make money that’s ‘the Courtney money.’

Krist and Dave’s share: “They own one half. The Nirvana LLC, which is t-shirts … Frances has 40% of the publishing money. Then I sold 25% and I had a really, really lousy lawyer. I don’t have to say his name so I don’t have to say ‘alleged.’ He was a f*ck. Lawyers tend to be f*cks, especially in L.A.”  Continue reading “Courtney Love on Howard Stern Highlights 5/30/13”

Taylor Swift Disses Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, Says They’re Going Straight To Hell Without Passing Go

Taylor Swift vanity fairTaylor Swift took it a bit too far when she hit beloved funny-ladies Amy Poehler and Tina Fey with a stone normally reserved for her ex-boyfriends. In the latest issue of Vanity Fair, Taylor (who I THOUGHT had an okay sense of humor) says there’s a special place in hell for the Golden Globe hosts who light-heartedly told her to “stay away” from Michael J. Fox’s son, joking that she “Needs some ‘me time’ to learn about herself.”

“You know, Katie Couric is one of my favorite people,” Swift told Vanity Fair’s Nancy Jo Sales. “Because she said to me she had heard a quote that she loved, that said, ‘There’s a special place in hell for women who don’t help other women.’”

I’d like to randomly mention that the favorited quote about women and fire/brimstone was originally delivered by Madeleine Albright at a WNBA game in 2006. I doubt our former Secretary of State would appreciate it being used maliciously against fellow feminists like Tina Fey.  Continue reading “Taylor Swift Disses Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, Says They’re Going Straight To Hell Without Passing Go”

50 Cent Calls Kanye’s Armenian Treasure ‘Trash’

50 Cent has a longstanding feud with Kanye West. I guess he feels threatened because “Jesus Walks” is better than any of his songs. At one point, 50 said he would retire if Kanye’s album Graduation sold more copies than his album, Curtis.

I think 50 Cent kind of held true to his word, because I can’t remember the last radio-worthy song he put out. Not that I’m a huge Kanye fan either.

In fact, Chelsea Handler’s ex (Fifty) did recently tell XXL magazine something that made me chuckle.

On Kim Kardashian: “I mean … if that man feel like she’s perfect, then she’s perfect. He could mean it and you’ll end up singing the words to it because he’s Kanye. You know how it is? One man’s trash is another man’s treasure.”  Continue reading “50 Cent Calls Kanye’s Armenian Treasure ‘Trash’”

Lady Gaga On Cocaine: It’s ‘The White Devil’

Lady Gaga has never been one to keep secrets, except about relationships. Her drugs use is something she’s always been open about, though she went more into depth about it for The Conversation with Amanda de Cadanet.

“I was very depressed when I was 19. Because I decided to pursue music, and I dropped out of school and I told my parents I didn’t want any money from them…And I would go back to my apartment every day and I would just sit there.”

“It was quiet and it was lonely. It was still. And there was just my piano and myself…Especially during the period when I was doing cocaine.”  Continue reading “Lady Gaga On Cocaine: It’s ‘The White Devil’”

Whitney Cummings Gets Candid About The Criticism Towards Her Show

Whitney Cummings became a friend of the Howard Stern Show back in late 2008 after she gained notoriety for her Comedy Central roast jokes.

Since then she’s become the writer and producer of two shows, 2 Broke Girls and Whitney, one acclaimed, one heavily criticized.

Cummings appeared on Stern last week (I get a lot of story ideas from there because I’m a non-famous member of the wack packin a state of disarray (about the backlash towards Whitney) and honesty about her sister’s drug and alcohol addiction. When Howard expressed concern about her emotional state, the insult comic known for her tough-exterior nearly broke down in tears.  Continue reading “Whitney Cummings Gets Candid About The Criticism Towards Her Show”

Elle Macpherson Digs Hole Of Ignorance On Howard Stern

Supermodel Elle Macpherson made some strange and offensive remarks on The Howard Stern Show Tuesday morning concerning Jewish stereotypes.

She said, “I have a 14 year old son, what do you think he thinks about right now?”

After Howard joked about her sons seeing a nude modeling shot of her (weird) and then:

“I just think you’re being absolutely Jewish.”

She took it even further by imitating an old Jewish mother, calling him “overprotective” and “nagging.”  Continue reading “Elle Macpherson Digs Hole Of Ignorance On Howard Stern”

At This Point, Giuliana Rancic Doesn’t Care About Her Breasts

Giuliana Rancic told Michigan Avenue magazine that she doesn’t completely understand people’s reactions to her breast cancer and decision to have a double mastectomy after being diagnosed.

“People come up and they have sadness in their eyes, and I think, at a time when everyone’s looking at me with pity, I look at myself as lucky. I think I just dodged the biggest bullet of my life.”

“Maybe in some way I’m a little bit of a messenger. Maybe God knew that I have a big mouth, that I’m a loud Italian chick, that I wouldn’t hide anything. It now starts to make sense to me why I think I got the cool job, because I think HE knew I would do some cool stuff with it.”

What Is Madonna Trying To Say About Lady Gaga’s Music?

Madonna sat with Cynthia McFadden on ABC’s 20/20, discussing everything from her liking to younger men (she swears it’s not on purpose) sex education with her children (Lourdes already had “the talk”) kissing Nicki Minaj and the Super Bowl, to which she nonchalantly says “I have to put on the greatest show on earth.”

When told by McFadden that she’s a romantic, she responds, “I am, sorry.” She continues sounding more than a little snobby during a cooking question, “I don’t think I’ve ever cooked a meal entirely by myself…I do everything else, do I have to do everything?”

On Monday during MSNBC’s Rock Center with Brian Williams, acclaimed sports reporter Bob Costas made a call to Jerry Sandusky, the former Penn State assistant coach who was arrested on November 5, 2011 for sexually assaulting eight young boys over a span of 15 years.

Sandusky, who hosted various summer football camps for kids after retirement and is now charged with 40 counts of sexual abuse, was asked bluntly but professionally by Costas if indeed he is a pedophile, to which he replied, “No.” He went on to say,

“I have horsed around with kids. I have showered after workouts. I have hugged them and I have touched their legs without intent of sexual contact.”

Ryan Gosling Admits To Total Femininity

In an interview with Ryan Gosling for The Independent, many fascinating topics were covered including his ballet skills, child/woman hood and new movie, The Ides Of March. Here are the two highlights:

“I think like a girl, I think. I was literally raised by my mother and my sister. And I just feel like I wouldn’t know how to think any other way. My sister was my best friend and my hero growing up. Because I was home-schooled I didn’t have a lot of friends and I did ballet, which was always just girls. All of that had an effect on my brain.”

Dear Brad Pitt: Shut Up, Shut Up, Shut Up!

Oh lord, he just needs to stop talking. Hoof in mouth alert, times two. Brad Pitt is STILL talking about the comments he made about Jennifer Aniston to Parade Magazine.

This is actually the third time he’s talked about this, if you count the original quote about how he “wasn’t living an interesting life” during his marriage to Jennifer Aniston…

He’s spending all this unwarranted energy on backtracking a comment that was clearly disparaging…

To Parade, on his marriage to Aniston from 2000 to 2005:

It started feeling pathetic. It became very clear to me that I was intent on trying to find a movie about an interesting life, but I wasn’t living an interesting life myself…”
