GIF: Skrillex KNOCKED OUT in Mexico

The man responsible for popularizing dubstep ran straight into a large and heavy piece of equipment on stage in Mexico City during 2012’s Mothership Tour. (Whomp whomp whomp / Bangarang?)

As Uproxx pointed out, it’s a great video whether you love or hate the genre because it’s humanly impossibly not to laugh at people when they fall straight on their ass in such a slip-of-the-peel type of way.

(I personally don’t hate Skrillex. Ellie Goulding gave him the time of day so he must not be that bad…)

“I want the bass line to do this, like [makes loud GUH GUH GUH sound].” – Taylor Swift on her New dubstep Song

Labradoodle turned Afghan Hound, Taylor Swift tells Spin magazine how she ended up with her new dubstep song, “I Knew You Were Trouble”:

“I never really thought, “Hey, I want to download some dubstep music.” What ended up happening was, I wrote this melody for this chorus on the piano, and I brought it to Max Martin and Shellback, and I said, “At the end of the chorus I just want this to go crazy. I want it to be really chaotic; I want the bass line to do this, like [makes loud GUH GUH GUH sound].”

To her credit, this is a pretty adorable explanation and the song is still very Swifty. It starts out with “Once upon a time” because all of her songs are fairy tales that 17 year olds 22 year olds fantasize about. She continues,  Continue reading ““I want the bass line to do this, like [makes loud GUH GUH GUH sound].” – Taylor Swift on her New dubstep Song”

Funny Video: Lake Of The Ozarks Dubstep Boat Crash

Seven boaters in Missouri were knocked from side to side after going over a large wave in the Lake of the Ozarks, and the footage of the notably party-loving crew being battered by stupidity is amazing.

There’s an original video of Lake TV News covering the incident, but the “Fountain Crash Dubstepified” version using Skrillex’s “Scary Monsters And Nice Sprites” is much better.

Video: Skrillex – “Bangarang”

Sonny Moore (aka Skrillex) had a HUGE year in 2011 and is currently enjoying an even bigger one, especially after his three Grammy wins.

Moore is also one of the most hated people in music, side by side with LMFAO and Justin Bieber. In his case, it isn’t for lack of talent but for highlighting a genre that just isn’t for everybody: Dubstep.

So This Is That Dubstep Stuff People Keep Talking About?

I love Shirley Manson (of Garbage fame) so when she posted a video on her Facebook and called it “video of the year” with a bunch of exclamation points, I was inclined to check it out.

I realized it was by this Skrillex dude that Spin put on their “Dance Issue” cover. He’s bald but simultaneously has long hair, making him the hairiest bald man since Michael Bolton and crazy Bryan Cranston on Breaking Bad.

I know the name “dubstep” is putting people off, but It’s really just bizarre/random/cinematic electronic music. Some of it is awful and some of it is good. Same goes for pop, rap and rock…
