If You Only Read Two Tributes To Lou Reed…

Lou Reed black and whiteA hoard of celebrities, some of whom knew the late rock legend Lou Reed, who passed away on Sunday in Long Island after battling liver disease, and some who didn’t, have tweeted and blogged kind words acknowledging his legacy.

Out of all those words, including some by Morrissey, David Bowie and Reed’s bandmate, The Velvet Underground co-founder John Cale, the ones written by Metric’s Emily Haines and journalist Legs McNeil (Please Kill Me: The Uncensored Oral History of Punk) touched me most.

“The first time I sang ‘Perfect Day’ for him, Lou said, ‘You have to bring more pain to it. You’re not singing about a fucking picnic,'” Haines, who collaborated with Reed on her latest albumwrote in a piece featured on Rolling Stone.

“In his last message to me, Lou wrote, ‘I’m so sorry Emily I would’ve if I could have but I’m a little under the weather but I love you,” she concluded in reference to a cancelled duet at Coachella.  Continue reading “If You Only Read Two Tributes To Lou Reed…”

Infamous Child Molester R. Kelly Releases Tribute To Sandy Hook Elementary

R. Kelly tuxedo 1The song is “I Know You Are Hurting.” It’s in the vein of “I Believe I Can Fly” and “You Are Not Alone” and it was just released by R. Kelly as a tribute to the kids of Newtown, Connecticut.

While it’s hard to speak ill of him and the fact that he’s donating the proceeds to the victims’ families, it seems inappropriate considering he was charged with seven counts of producing child pornography in 2002.

Is this just one of those times when you hush me? Because I understand.

Take the money. And if he donates out of his own pocket, it’s probably “Trapped In The Closet” money, not at all tainted by the fact that he recorded himself peeing on a 14-year-old. Continue reading “Infamous Child Molester R. Kelly Releases Tribute To Sandy Hook Elementary”

Stars Pay Tribute To Etta James

Etta James touched the lives of many artists, some obvious (Beyonce, Adele) and some not so much (Flo Rida) before and after she lost her battle with Leukemia.

Kelly Clarkson covered “I Go Blind” at Radio City Music Hall four days ago and Adele sang “Fool That I Am” at Somerville Theatre in Massachusetts after learning her idol was ill on January 14, then took to her blog to comment on the loss.

Michael Jackson Tribute Concert Concludes In Wales

Prince Jackson, Jamie Foxx and Ne-Yo

Yesterday marked the date of the long-awaited “Michael Forever” tribute concert which has been criticized for its terrible timing (amidst Conrad Murray trial) Janet Jackson voiced her concern and reason for not appearing:

“Because of the trial, the timing of this tribute to our brother would be too difficult for me…”

Happy Birthday, Jim Henson! (September 24, 1936 – May 16, 1990)

As you surely noticed on Google, there’s an interactive Muppet tribute on the home page, a cute and fitting tribute to the creative brilliance of Mississippi-native Jim Henson, whose 75th birthday would have been today.

He is not only the creator of the Muppets, but the mastermind behind one of everyone’s favorite 80’s movies, Labyrinth, starring David Bowie and Jennifer Connelly.

He also co-created Fraggle Rock and wrote and directed 1982’s The Dark Crystal. (Which is receiving the 3D/sequel treatment quite soon)…

Disappointing Britney Spears VMA Tribute

Obviously I am not happy about the MTV Video Music Awards this year. So far I’ve been excited to see Rebecca Black dressed as a dinosaur, the Amy Winehouse tribute, Adele’s performance and Beavis & Butthead staring at Nicki Minaj’s Super Bass Bazoombas.

While I am happy that there was a tribute at all for Britney Spears and that she won the award for Best Pop Video for “Till The World Ends,” the tribute part of it was a huge letdown.

This year Britney (who looked very healthy/pretty) was presented the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award and a group of people got together to apparently, celebrate her history…

It’s Britney, Bitch!! (Video Nostalgia)

Because I’m thrilled about the Britney VMA tribute tomorrow, here are a bunch of videos of random Britney Spears moments… From Singing with Michael Jackson to The Madonna kiss to the strip tease to Pepsi ads to the snake slave dance to Glee’s Heather Morris to the “Circus” video!

(Britney Spears performing “The Way You Make Me Feel” with Michael Jackson, at Madison Square Garden)

(The famous Madonna/Britney kiss. Christina Aguilera and Missy Elliot were there too I think. Check out Avril Lavigne’s reaction! And Eminem, Beyonce, the Queer Eye guys, 50 Cent and Justin Timberlake. Priceless)

Get Psyched For The All-Star Britney Spears VMA Tribute!!

We heard a bit ago that VMA favorite of the past, Britney Spears, is getting her own tribute at the VMAs… Now I’m almost 100% sure that Madonna Katy, Perry, Lady Gaga, Ke$ha, Nicki Minaj, Demi Lovato and Janet Jackson will be involved.

It’s even rumored that Lady Gaga might sing “Circus?” Though that sounds pretty falsified to me.

Not to mention, Britney may perform snippets of two of her songs or more, I’m hoping.

Where on earth is Rihanna while all this is happening? I thought for sure after she did that wonderful remix of “S&M” with Britney that she’d want to get on this.
