69 Year-Old Grandma Scares Away Robber With Knife

Barbara Lane, a restaurant manager in Oregon, was working late when a robber burst in and tried to threaten her. Lane, 69, wasn’t having it. She fought back ferociously, scaring the man off by brandishing a blade.

The Oregonian reports that Barbara Lane was reading a mystery novel behind the counter of the New China Garden Restaurant in SE Portand when a 30-something year-old man wearing a bandana over his face, came in at around midnight. Lane says,

“He just flipped the door open and made a run to jump over the counter. I just automatically grabbed my chair. I was going to hit him with it…”

The robber fell as he attempted to jump over the counter, and started yelling from the ground, “Get away lady!”

“No, you get away!” The hot-blooded grandmother retorted. She then reached for a large butcher knife that she kept behind the register, and held it firmly in her hand. She replied again,

“No, you back up. Back, back out,” she said as she waved the knife in the air. The intruder went towards the cash register, but Lane hit him in the hand with the knife.

“I smacked him with my knife,” she added. “I don’t think I hit him hard enough to hurt him. It was enough for him to let go, turn around and run.”

Barbara Lane is my new hero! She’s short in stature (5’3″) and weighs in at about 125 pounds. She also has seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Her summary of the experience:

“You don’t want to get this old lady mad. I’m in the process of moving and I’ve been a bit crabby lately. He picked the wrong day.”

[Hell yeah, she’s like a lady version of Clint Eastwood in Gran Torino. “GET OFF MY LAWN/outta my restaurant!”]
