The CW is pumping new content into the air at a more rapid rate than redneck teeth fall into whiskey bottles.
Let’s be clear, BOTH shows are travesties and great examples of bad sets, casting and dialogue BUT if you have to watch one, The Secret Circle is much much more entertaining…
Let me list the downfalls of The Ringer, starring Sarah Michelle Gellar, times two. It is the tale of a troubled woman and her identical twin whom she is not close with.
Only to find that she too suffered from some ordeals of her own – pregnancy, bad marriage, infidelity, what-have-you. The show suffers from careless acting, and weird sets that look like jokes. Such as a certain boat scene.
The problem is the “joke” sets and “joke” acting aren’t meant to be funny. For a show promoted as a very dark and intriguing thriller, it’s more like a harsh slip on a banana peel. With Gellar as the peel, and your tailbone broken afterwards, sans laughter.
The Secret Circle, however, is awesome! In a way. It is a bit reminiscent of Fox’s long-gone Point Pleasant, only less mysterious. (Just wait till you see the floating raindrop scene)
It is centered around an orphaned teenager (Britt Robertson) who moves to Washington state (Twilight much?) to live with her grandma after a tragic accident.
She is soon accosted by five teenagers, three in particular, a boring man-witch suitor type, a feisty “mean girl” witch, and a hopeless but semi-innocent follower witch.
Apparently Cassie (Robertson) is the missing link is some yes you guessed it, secret witch circle that the whole town seems to know about. Talk about poor secret keeping. Maybe they mean the audience?
Basically, The Secret Circle is like The Craft, but with an unknown cast and no goth element. It’s witches, in American Apparel. (No tattered black robes or eyeliner addictions)
If you are faced with the gut-wrenchingly tough decision of weekday television-watching, via The CW, I suggest the witch show over the twin show.
You can catch The Secret Circle on Thursdays and The Ringer on Tuesdays. (Both shows received high ratings for the channel)
[If you’re truly smart you won’t watch anything on The CW]
