Remember when Mischa Barton had it all? Super rich, super pretty, superstar of a hit show on Fox, and then it all came crashing down when she requested that her character Marissa Cooper be killed of The O.C. so she could focus on movies?
Well, “focusing on movies” translated to partying. In a new, exclusive interview with People magazine 27-year-old Barton tells her side of that very publicized DUI in 2007, her stay in a psych ward and the general pressures of fame.
“It was a full-on breakdown,” she said. “I was under enormous pressure. It was terrifying, straight out of ‘Girl, Interrupted.’ Story of my life.”
On the obsession with her weight: “When you’re 16, you’re not what you are at 25. I was really young and just had not filled out at all. Not everybody stays the same body type. It was always ‘She’s too skinny, she must be sick.’ Then it was, ‘she’s too big.’ I was never the right weight.”
Hospitalization: “I was never suicidal. I was just overworked and depressed. But one slip of the tongue in a heightened moment and you find yourself in that situation.”
Barton, who is working on a comeback with a TV pilot in the works, added that “There were a lot of enablers around.” Cough cough Nicole Richie cough Lindsay Lohan cough cough Brandon Davis. Hashtag regret.
