Video: Garbage & Screaming Females – “Because The Night”

Shirley Manson and Garbage joined forces with insane guitarist Marissa Paternoster and Screaming Females for the cover of “Because The Night” they’ve been peddling across the country since the beginning of their tour in a new semi impromptu video directed by Sophie Muller.

Two drums, two guitars, two powerful voices, one studio session. Butch Vig’s wisdom.

Garbage Perform “I Hate Love” on Leno 12/7/2012

garbage-jay-leno-2012 2Shirley Manson and her “boys” (Butch Vig, Duke Erikson, Steve Marker and Eric Avery) rocked Jay Leno’s Tonight Show stage with “I Hate Love,” from Not Your Kind of People.

“For those who missed it, here is ‘I hate Love’ on US TV show The Tonight Show. We had so much fun playing for the 101th time this year for Mr Jay Leno. My boys killed it and no you CAN’T have my boots. Sx,” Manson wrote on Facebook with a link to the video.

Shirley Manson Recounts Intense Meeting With J-Lo

Garbage frontwoman Shirley Manson told Girl On Guy’s Aisha Tyler about an early encounter with a pop star she’d spoken ill of to the media earlier in her career in a podcast interview released Thursday.

When Tyler asked Manson if she ever had a public moment where she thought she was going to say something “explosive” or incendiary to the media, she responded with this anecdote:

“One really stupid thing I said was, I kind of went after J-Lo. Which I do regret actually because I then met her many years later and I respect her, she’s hardcore. She’s a hard worker. She’s fought tooth and nail to do what she does for a living.”  Continue reading “Shirley Manson Recounts Intense Meeting With J-Lo”

Video: Garbage – “Big Bright World”

Garbage’s second video effort from their fifth album, Not Your Kind Of People, is black and white like April’s “Blood For Poppies.”

It’s also full of the same random artistic Florence + The Machine-esque imagery but instead of being blindfolded and getting her eyeball cut open, Shirley Manson’s going for a swim.  Continue reading “Video: Garbage – “Big Bright World””

Funny Video: Wanda Sykes On Her Voice & Being Mistaken For Lenny Kravitz

This is from April but it’s relevant because she’s talking about the new Ice Age movie which just came out and Lenny Kravitz, who never goes out of style.

“As a kid my mother would try to get me to change my voice, like to sound more pleasant. I guess my voice got on her nerves or something cause I was outside playing, not even talking to her, playing with my friends…she would yell out the window, ‘Wanda, change your voice!'”  Continue reading “Funny Video: Wanda Sykes On Her Voice & Being Mistaken For Lenny Kravitz”

Shirley Manson For Nylon June/July 2012

Shirley Manson has been in the business of rock since the mid-80’s with Goodbye Mr. Mackenzie, then the side project Angelfish and then Garbage. Manson is hot on the promotion trail for the new album.

That trail includes appearing on the cover of Nylon Magazine, a publication best known for its emphasis on music and, if you ask me, excellent taste in celebrity cover choices.

Here are some highlights, including the real reason for the band’s hiatus…

On taking a break after Bleed Like Me: “When we first came off the road, I felt that we had worn out our welcome as a band. We had enjoyed such a zeitgeist moment with our first two records – people were excited by us – and then the music scene shifted so completely.”  Continue reading “Shirley Manson For Nylon June/July 2012”

Semi-Obscure Pop/Rock Playlist #2

You like music? So do I. Use your savvy non-braindead skills to seek out these tunes…

1. Charli XCX – “Stay Away.” Charlotte Aitchison’s “Stay Away” baffles me for the fact that it isn’t a hit song that started slowly (like “Somebody That I Used To Know” or “Maps” by Yeah Yeah Yeahs) and ended big, with radio success and the artist on SNL. It’s got that 90’s feel, meets The Knife or something Lovefoxxx-approved, from Drive.

2. Santigold – “Go!” Feat. Karen O. Master of My Make-Believe, the latest from Santi White is everything you could want from a sophomore album. It’s different but not so different that you have trouble identifying and all the songs are top-notch experimental frenzies, everything M.I.A. wishes she’d done with MAYA.  Continue reading “Semi-Obscure Pop/Rock Playlist #2”

Another Free Song From Garbage!

Not only can you listen to Garbage’s entire eleven-track album Not Your Kind Of People on Spin.com, you can download the song “Automatic Systematic Habit” for free on iTunes.

It’s actually better than “Blood For Poppies,” a track the band gave away in mid-March. “Automatic Systematic Habit” is something fans of their last four albums can easily get on board with, a hybrid of material from Version 2.0 and Bleed Like Me.

Manson, Butch and the boys will drop Not Your Kind Of People on May 15. If you’re sick of me talking about Garbage, I don’t CARE! Be prepared to hear all about Metric and Garbage and Tegan and Sara for the next hundred days.

Mexico City Trades Wi-Fi For Dog Turds

The internet company Terra, which operates out of the U.S. and 16 Spanish-speaking countries, has come up with an eco-friendly if not eccentric idea – a receptacle that distributes Wi-Fi minutes in exchange for dog waste.

Ten parks in Mexico City already have special garbage cans that encourage people to clean up after their pets by calculating the weight of the items disposed thus providing everyone in range with free internet.

The more crap you collect, the more minutes you and your fellow dog walkers get. Of course, there’s nothing stopping people from just putting trash in the can. According to Creativity Online, they’ve already anticipated this.

“The agency responsible for the program notes that while people may abuse the bins by tossing trash into them for WiFi, any action to keep the streets clean is a positive one.” Continue reading “Mexico City Trades Wi-Fi For Dog Turds”

Video: Garbage – “Blood For Poppies”

Yesterday I participated in the live Garbage UStream chat and premiere of their new video, the first since “Tell Me Where It Hurts” from their best-of, Absolute Garbage.

I didn’t learn much from my music idols, but it was thrilling to see them together. The video along with tracklist announcements and tour dates confirm that all of this is real. Garbage is back.

Download The New Garbage Track, ‘Blood For Poppies’

Garbage’s first album in seven years has a release date (May 15th) an official tracklist, album art and now an official single.

Their new song “Blood For Poppies” off Not Your Kind Of People was played on KROQ and other radio stations yesterday. You can download it for free HERE.

I’ve already placed the song on my favorite iTunes playlist and have had it on repeat for a good portion of the day.

That is, when I wasn’t re-watching Young Adult (I like to emulate Mavis) devouring pizza and listening to Stern. I think I can even step away from my deep-rooted love for Garbage and say that this is a good song that could easily receive heavy alternative radio airplay. New Garbage Album Tracklist And Cover Art

The official cover art and tracklisting for Garbage‘s first CD since 2005 has been revealed for my fanatic eyes to feast upon.

Not Your Kind Of People will be released on May 15th in standard edition, with eleven tracks.

The deluxe edition has simple red cover art with the band’s signature “G” instead of white, plus four bonus songs.

The lead single is “Blood For Poppies.”

Shirley, Butch and the gang are currently filming a video for it.

Shirley Manson Shows Off Her Stylish Mind

I never thought I’d be posting pictures of my favorite female rock icon looking like a pasty, lace-covered Joan Pringle on my own personal gossip website, but here I am, and there she is.

“DON’T CALL IT A COMEBACK, SHIRLEY MANSON IS A CLASSIC” is a tagline more to my liking than the usual “Garbage is still around?” Or “yeah I had their record when I was 15 and depressed. It was pretty good.”

2005’s Bleed Like Me was the last Garbage album but a fresh one is finally coming this year in the springtime. To me, she is ready to continue her reign, not resume it. In the latest issue of V Magazine she discusses music, her childhood and of course her own views on fashion.

A New Garbage Album Is Expected In March, 2012!

New music from Garbage is finally becoming a realization, nearly seven years after 2005’s Bleed Like Me, not to mention rumors of a full on break-up then a Shirley Manson solo contribution and more whispers of new material as far back as 2007.

Butch Vig and Scottish frontwoman Shirley Manson, who took a break to pursue acting (she played a bot on Sarah Connor Chronicles) plus bassist Duke Erikson and guitarist Steve Marker are bringing us their fifth album, which Rolling Stone just revealed is due in March or April of 2012. (We may see a single in December or January)

Garbage Album Done Recording In Three Weeks?

August 14, 2011 11:50 am Garbage posted a cryptic message on their Facebook page (above) a picture of Shirley Manson recording vocals, and the simple words,

“Three more weeks to go…”
