Tatiana Maslany and Rooney Mara Up For Big ‘Star Wars’ Role

Emmy-less Tatiana Maslany (Orphan Black) and Oscar-less Rooney Mara (The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo) are both up for a leading lady position on the next, next Star Wars movie. NOT this year’s The Force Awakens, but the one from 2015 directed by Gareth Edwards (looking to redeem himself for the Godzilla reboot). British actress Felicity Jones (Autobahn, The Theory of Everything) is also screen testing for the job.

In a perfect world Mara, Maslany and Jones are testing for a role as Mara Jade Skywalker from Timothy Zahn’s awesome Star Wars books, the Thrawn trilogy, which should honestly serve as source material for any new SW movie.

Tell me you don’t agree after reading this description of Zahn’s Heir to the Empire:

It’s five years after Return of the Jedi: the Rebel Alliance has destroyed the Death Star, defeated Darth Vader and the Emperor, and driven out the remnants of the old Imperial Starfleet to a distant corner of the galaxy. Princess Leia and Han Solo are married and expecting Jedi Twins.

The Thrawn trilogy has been credited by many for keeping Star Wars going and was the only known remedy for people with debilitating post traumatic Phantom Menace disease.

In the off chance that they are actually auditioning to play Mara Jade, Google Image Search suggests we picture them in Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow costume from Iron Man 2 and The Avengers…

Best and Worst Dressed at the 2013 Met Gala

beyonce-met-gala 2013
Does the Met Gala serve a purpose, besides as a platform for celebs to outdo each other with extravagant designer gowns doused in gems that cost more than a box of black market livers?

WHO CARES. Look at the gold Givenchy dress Beyonce wore and weep poor-person tears.

WORST: Miley Cyrus (in meshy Marc Jacobs) and Kristen Stewart (in Stella McCartney).

Red pajamas and hair like Angelica’s Rugrats doll? It’s not their fault. Everyone at the ball dressed like a urinal at CBGB because it was the opening of the PUNK: Chaos to Couture exhibition.

Rooney Mara Axed Reverse Cowgirl in ‘Side Effects’

Channing and RooneyWe often hear about actresses who are willing to do nudity that is “tasteful,” but we rarely hear what they actually won’t do.

In a feature for Interview Magazine, Rooney Mara says she draws the line at reverse cowgirl.

On a Side Effects sex scene with Channing Tatum, Mara explains that she “put her foot down”  when director Steven Soderbergh, who was also conducting the interview, asked her to try the position.

If the character should be nude in the scene and it makes sense and I trust the person making the film – and I regret my decision to trust you now that I know you more – then I don’t see a problem with it.

I certainly don’t want to be involved in anything that is gratuitous, but I don’t think the human body is something to be ashamed of.  Continue reading “Rooney Mara Axed Reverse Cowgirl in ‘Side Effects’”

Rooney’s Lisbeth Salander Is A Girl Who Plays With Uncertainty

Fans of the American remake of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo directed by David Fincher and starring a wonderfully transformed Rooney Mara who are expecting a sequel may be out of luck.

On its generous budget of $100 million (the equally great Swedish version cost $13 million and brought in over $100 million), GWTDT suffered a modest loss, according to MGM.

Fincher’s comments in December of 2011 where he pretty much shot down the idea of contributing to what would be a second installment, The Girl Who Played With Fire, felt like an added setback. Continue reading “Rooney’s Lisbeth Salander Is A Girl Who Plays With Uncertainty”

An In-Depth Look At ‘The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo’ Special Features

I got my hands on a copy of the three-disc Girl With The Dragon Tattoo blu-ray recently and spent part of the day watching the four hours of extra features (watch clips HERE) which are quite enjoyable.

I like the technical aspect of filmmaking but also recognize that some DVD featurettes and commentaries are horribly boring.

This is not one of those times. Instead, I gained insight into my favorite movie of the past five years:

1. Rooney Mara has a biting and underappreciated sense of humor. Maybe I seem sick for deciding this after seeing her bring up a spin-off of ‘eff marry kill’ while adding grunting sounds to the post-production rape scene… Continue reading “An In-Depth Look At ‘The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo’ Special Features”

Peter Travers Is An Ignoramus, Thinks ‘Haywire’ Is Better Than ‘Dragon Tattoo’

I never completely trusted Rolling Stone movie reviews but this time I’m angry that I don’t have a fireplace or hobo-style porch barrel for the simple purpose of LIGHTING THE LATEST ISSUE ON FIRE.

I haven’t seen Haywire, and while I’m sort of surprised that people are somehow intrigued by the idea of another movie with a female action star simply because this one (Gina Carano) is big in the MMA circuit, I would still watch it. There’s just absolutely no way that it’s somehow better than The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, which is the message in the Bowie issue of RS where Peter Travers gave Haywire three and a half stars and called Carano “poetry in kickass motion.”  Continue reading “Peter Travers Is An Ignoramus, Thinks ‘Haywire’ Is Better Than ‘Dragon Tattoo’”

The Old Lisbeth Salander Supports The New One

Noomi Rapace is the sole reason that I was extremely hesitant to support an American version of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo and Stieg Larsson’s Millenium Series as a whole. “Hesitant” is actually an understatement.

I LOATHED the idea of it. If you’ve ever read the books or seen the Swedish film adaptations, you’d know that as a fan you develop a very strong connection with the characters. Lisbeth in particular, the non-cliche, promiscuous, borderline-Asperger’s hacker.

Rooney Mara Hated Being On ‘Law And Order: SVU’

Rooney Mara (The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo) opened up to Allure Magazine about her acting past, which people know nearly nothing about besides that she played the girl who spouted the famous Social Network opening line,

“Look, you are probably going to be a very successful computer person. But you’re gonna go through life thinking that girls don’t like you because you’re a nerd. And I want you to know from the bottom of my heart that that won’t be true. It’ll be because you’re an asshole.”

Turns out the real life Mara isn’t afraid to speak her mind about controversial issues, like when she talked about her 2006 role as sixteen year-old Jessica DeLay on Law And Order: Svu,  Continue reading “Rooney Mara Hated Being On ‘Law And Order: SVU’”
